WHY SING?

The Benefits of Singing Together

IMPROVES ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

Did you know that children who participate in a choir demonstrate an improvement in their academic studies? Parents and educators have observed that children who regularly sing in a choir perform better in mathematics, English and other arts classes compared with non-singers. Grades are better all around with the children having improved memory and self-discipline.

A SENSE OF BELONGING

Choral singing is often valued for its social benefits. It has been shown to reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, while increasing a sense of community and social connectedness. While many group activities produce similar results, choral singing even out-performs team sports.

REDUCES STRESS, ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION

Studies have shown that singing together releases a number of different hormones in our bodies that produce happy and calming feelings (such as prolactin, serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin) while reducing stress-related hormones (such as cortisol). Choir singing is excellent for your mental health!
